How To Fix A Leaking Delta Single Handle Kitchen Faucet

A leaking faucet is a common plumbing problem that can waste water and increase your utility bills. If you have a leaking Delta single-handle kitchen faucet, there are a few things you can do to try to fix it yourself.

Before you begin, gather the following tools and materials:

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Replacement O-rings
  • Plumber's putty

Once you have all of your tools and materials, follow these steps to fix your leaking Delta single-handle kitchen faucet:

  1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet. There should be two shut-off valves under the sink, one for hot water and one for cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water.
  2. Remove the handle. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws that hold the handle in place. Once the screws are removed, pull the handle straight up to remove it.
  3. Remove the cartridge. Use the adjustable wrench to loosen the packing nut that holds the cartridge in place. Once the packing nut is loose, you can pull the cartridge straight out of the faucet.
  4. Inspect the O-rings. The O-rings are small rubber rings that create a seal between the cartridge and the faucet body. If the O-rings are worn or damaged, they can cause the faucet to leak. Replace any damaged O-rings with new ones.
  5. Apply plumber's putty to the base of the cartridge. Plumber's putty is a type of sealant that will help to create a watertight seal between the cartridge and the faucet body.
  6. Reinstall the cartridge. Push the cartridge back into the faucet body and tighten the packing nut. Do not overtighten the packing nut, as this can damage the cartridge.
  7. Reinstall the handle. Push the handle back onto the cartridge and tighten the two screws that hold it in place.
  8. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks. If the faucet is still leaking, you may need to call a plumber to fix the problem.

By following these steps, you can fix a leaking Delta single-handle kitchen faucet yourself and save money on plumbing costs.
