How to Fix a Leaky Delta Double Handle Kitchen Faucet

A leaky kitchen faucet can be a nuisance, wasting water and potentially leading to higher utility bills. If you have a Delta double handle kitchen faucet that is leaking, don't worry - it's a relatively easy fix that you can do yourself with a few basic tools and materials.

Identify the Source of the Leak

The first step to fixing a leaky faucet is to identify the source of the leak. There are three common areas where leaks can occur in a double handle faucet:

  • The handle
  • The spout
  • The base of the faucet

To identify the source of the leak, turn on the faucet and look for any visible leaks. If you see water dripping from the handle, then the leak is most likely coming from the handle washer. If you see water dripping from the spout, then the leak is most likely coming from the spout O-ring. If you see water dripping from the base of the faucet, then the leak is most likely coming from the base washer.

Gather the Necessary Tools and Materials

Once you have identified the source of the leak, you will need to gather the necessary tools and materials to fix it.

For most faucet repairs, you will need the following tools:

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Faucet wrench

You will also need the following materials:

  • Replacement handle washer (if the leak is coming from the handle)
  • Replacement spout O-ring (if the leak is coming from the spout)
  • Replacement base washer (if the leak is coming from the base)

Repair the Leak

Once you have gathered the necessary tools and materials, you can begin repairing the leak.

If the leak is coming from the handle:

  1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet.
  2. Remove the handle by unscrewing the screw that holds it in place.
  3. Replace the old handle washer with a new one.
  4. Reassemble the handle and turn the water supply back on.

If the leak is coming from the spout:

  1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet.
  2. Remove the spout by unscrewing the nut that holds it in place.
  3. Replace the old spout O-ring with a new one.
  4. Reassemble the spout and turn the water supply back on.

If the leak is coming from the base:

  1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet.
  2. Remove the base of the faucet by unscrewing the nuts that hold it in place.
  3. Replace the old base washer with a new one.
  4. Reassemble the base of the faucet and turn the water supply back on.

Test the Faucet

Once you have repaired the leak, turn the water supply back on and test the faucet to make sure it is no longer leaking.
